The Holidays

TO MANY GIFTS?
We had a big dinner and early Christmas with some of my family at my house. Then we travelled an hour to visit another part of family and do Christmas with them. Then Christmas day we had tons of gifts from Santa at our own house. Later we trekked to my husband's parents house for yet another Christmas. How does one have time to open all these gifts? My kids get more gifts than they need. It seems they play with them for a month and then nothing. It seems a waste. I always say "In the Old days" - referring to my childhood, when NONE of my Aunts, Uncles, or cousins gave us gifts. We had one Grandma/Grandpa that bought us something small but that is it. I do think families now are buying for more extended family and it isn't necessary. I hate to tell my kids they don't need the gifts. Am I being a Ba-Humbug? My house is filling up with things we hate to get rid of because there is nothing wrong with them except lack of use. How do you justify getting rid of things you don't use or play with? It is the pack-rat in me I guess, if we don't get them to begin with then I don't have to store them or decide to get rid of them later.

A QUICK YEAR:
The year is almost over. I sit and ponder where the time went. We had hockey, hockey, hockey, school, homework, a vacation, more hockey and it seems the year is gone. I have a few more aches and pains, a few more grey hairs, and a few more wrinkles. My kids have grown more inches than I can count. I ran two 1/2 marathons and really want to make that into a tradition or even beat it (maybe!). I hate New Years Resolutions and I hate setting goals but I do hope next year will be as good or better than 2008. I guess that is all one can hope for.
I wish everyone a Happy New Years.
